Tourism Summerside Promotes Western PEI as Destination of Choice October 03, 2014 - Charlottetown, PEI – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), and PEI Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson today announced combined funding of $96,956 to help Tourism Summerside increase visitation to the area. This investment will allow Tourism Summerside to undertake marketing initiatives to promote the City of Summerside as a four-season tourist destination, while working with local tourism stakeholders to develop tourism attractions in the region for visitors to enjoy. Quick Facts: ■The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, provided funding of $21,956 to support this project. The Government of Prince Edward Island through the Department of Tourism and Culture provided an additional $75,000 to this initiative. ■Tourism Summerside is a not-for-profit organization that fosters tourism growth in the area by developing, promoting and marketing various tourism destinations and experiences. ■Summerside is the gateway to the North Cape Coastal Drive promoting visitation to the City of Summerside as well as Western Prince Edward Island.
