Touted as the “most advanced military jet ever built”, the F35 is certainly costing the American tax-payer a lot more than any other military jet in the history of aviation. (400 billion dollars and counting). However plagued by design shortfalls, the jet has shown (in trials) that it has a tendency to go up in flames when its fuel overheats and now it is reported that it will not be able to fire its main forward gun until the year 2019, [four years behind schedule], when the necessary computer software will be available to support it. These delays are very likely to raise the price-tag on this piece of equipment to astronomical heights before the project is more than likely finally scrapped for being unrealistic. Does America need another killing machine? Don’t Americans have better things to spend this money on? The UK despite being in a period of austerity has ordered 138 of these PINK ELEPHANTS. Its scrapped the perfectly good Harrier to make way for this tempramental US botched up fighter, built one and building another expensive aircraft carriers specially for this aircraft to operate from. I wonder if the subservient British government will evoke the penalty clause on this contract, because the US should be paying Britain for the delayed delivery of the F35 and the use of British technology, and of course theres the matter of the gap in our defences now that we no longer have a VTOL aircraft.
