Tower of Dawn Chapter 73 Aug.10, 2014 Early Sunday afternoon Air Force One comes to a halt at Rome International Airport. Bashan steps out and surveys the crowd gathered behind rope barriers. Bashan hesitates, then descends the open stairs as the mass of people begin to cheer and wave Italian flags. He waves and flashes a broad smile. On closer inspection something else catches his eye; red beads hanging around every neck. Young ladies, children, old men wear strands of red beads. Just before stepping off the jets’ stairway Bashan retrieves a strand of red beads from his own pocket and hangs them around his neck. The crowd breaks into a frenzy of cheers and surge forward as each person presses closer to this living hero. Bodyguards struggle to hold back the crowd as Bashan is quickly ushered to a line of black limousines. He sighs in relief and mutters, “This is the reception I need.” XXXXXX On the other side of Rome Pope Linus ll completes his normal Sunday address. As he withdraws from the balcony overlooking St. Peters Square he appears concerned. “The faithful are thin in attendance today.” His Bishop in attendance advises. “Yes, Your Holiness, there are fewer than usual. Many have gone to welcome Bashan to Rome.” The Pope looks back over the small crowd as they depart. “Maybe he should visit the Vatican; maybe we should talk.” XXXXXX After a couple of weeks Bashan is fully settled in Rome. He has scoured over reports of intercepted messages from the Arab States Alliance. All data indicates a nuclear attack is imminent. A meeting has been arranged with Jabal Yomseth, head of the ASA (Arab States Alliance) in Bagdad. XXXXXX Bagdad....a seething cauldron of erroneous intolerance and oppression. Jabal Yomseth and Bashan meet in a spacious and ornate palace room. Video cameras capture the two smiling and shaking hands. With a wave of his hand Jabal expels all spectators and cameras from the room; only he and Bashan remain. “What brings you to the Golden Palace? Do you wish to renegotiate our Towers contract, or is there perhaps some other matter to discuss? Bashan was waited most of his life for this moment. He must savor the moment; finesse and gently brush the canvas, but paint the picture none the less. Yes, mastering the art of negotiation. “First I wish to thank you for taking the time to receive my visit. You have been most hospitable and generous with my accommodations. With that said, I am not here on any specific business from Force Majeure. I am here to discuss certain communications; threatening communications.” Jabal Yomseth strokes his beard while keeping steady eye contact with Bashan. “How do such communications involve me or my Union?” Bashan maintains Jabals eye contact. “The communications originate with and include members of the ASA.” Jabal takes a deep breath and reaches for a glass of water. “What is their content?” Bashan hesitates, allowing Jabal time to return his attention. “First, I want to inform you the messages were intercepted by two sources. Therefore their origination and content have been confirmed. Second, I will tell you most of the content is in regard to a planned nuclear attack on Europe and some North African targets, as well as Israel.” Jabal interrupts, “So, now we get to the purpose of your visit! The Israeli government is behind this whole charade! I didn’t realize you could be manipulated so easily.” Bashan remains seated and cool. “I will remind you that I am not affiliated with any nation. I resigned the presidency and come to you as a citizen of the global community. I will not let your outburst interrupt the reason for my visit; therefore my question to you is simple and two fold. Are you aware of communications regarding a planned nuclear attack from your Union; and are the communiques to be taken seriously? With a clap of his hands Jabal summons armed guards into the meeting room. “These men will escort you out of my palace.” XXXXXX All media outlets grant Bashan time for an announcement. “I come to you from my new residence in Rome. I am grateful to the citizens of this great city for their generosity and continued support of my endeavors. As you are aware I recently vacated the noblest office of President of the United States in order to address a threat to our entire global security. It is with regret that I report the threat is not only real, but also especially catastrophic. I and the government of Israel have intercepted messages from the Arab States Alliance. These messages point to a nuclear attack on several nations with the hopes of unparalleled destruction of life and culture. My recent meeting with Jabal Yomseth yielded no resolution. I cannot allow any path of warfare to be followed. Therefore I am ordering Tower operations to be cut off in all Arab States. This will be a serious blow to their economy and lifestyle, but hopefully will aid in their return to reason. Additionally I will engage use of our microwave technology as a deterrent or retaliation if any act of aggression is taken by the ASA.” THE MEETING
