Town hall meeting focuses on bullying TROY – Troy University’s Department of Counseling and Psychology and Office of Service Learning and Civic Engagement are joining forces with Troy City Schools, Pike County Schools and East Central Child Health Collaborative to focus the community’s attention on bullying. As part of Bullying Awareness Month, a special town hall meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 in Hawkins Hall Room 122 where community leaders, mental health experts and school officials will discuss the issue of bullying. The presenters will take questions from community members and receive their input and feedback for use in developing solutions that can be implemented in Pike County. Students and parents are encouraged to attend the session, and a candlelight vigil will be held immediately following to memorialize those who have taken their own lives due to bullying, said Jonathan Cellon, a coordinator of Learning Services. On Monday, Oct. 21, Cellon’s office will be screening the documentary film “Bully” in Room 103 of Patterson Hall. The film centers on the stories of five youth and their struggles with being bullied by their peers. A post-screening discussion will center on ways the campus community can help address the problem. Finally, on Saturday, Oct. 26, a 5K run/walk is planned. “Bully Proof” will help raise money to support Troy City and Pike County Schools to purchase a bullying and cyberbullying curriculum. Interested participants may register online at bullyproof5k.eventbrite .
