Town of Kill Devil Hills Advisory 6:36 pm EST July 3, 2014 Hurricane Arthur has intensified to a Category 2 hurricane, with sustained winds of approximately 95 mph. Its anticipated track brings it much closer to Kill Devil Hills. This is a strong hurricane with the potential for major ocean and/or soundside flooding. Residents and visitors along the oceanfront and soundside are encouraged to take all necessary precautions to protect yourselves and your property. The First Flight Middle School will be open at 7:00 p.m. as a shelter of last resort – take food and linen and medical supplies with you. No pets will be allowed in the shelter. The school is located on Veterans Drive, off Colington Road. Gale force winds are expected to begin in our area of Dare County by 9:00 p.m. If you are leaving the area, please do so immediately. Do not wait any longer. Hurricane Arthur is a serious storm.
