Toxicity/Environmental Medicine Module Starting August 7th The disorders addressed in the previous six modules presented so far in the Academys Clinically Focused curriculum are largely caused by one issue - toxicity. All life in our planetary ecosystem is facing unprecedented toxic stressors caused by an industrial/technological revolution merely 200 years old. Module #8 in the Academys Basic Sciences webinars entitled Toxicants and Detoxification and Chapter 8 in the Lord and Braly textbook which is also entitled Toxicants and Detoxification provides excellent overviews of the theoretical issues related to toxicity, and they should nicely prepare participants for the upcoming clinically-focused module Toxicity/Environmental Medicine and Functional Medicine and Genomics. Human health will largely be dictated in the future by how efficiently and comprehensively we perpetually detoxify ourselves and those we care for, from worrisome stored and endogenously-derived toxins, and how well we protect ourselves and those we care for, especially those of us with genetic vulnerabilities, from an increasingly hostile environment, mostly related to polluted air, food, electromagnetic and water exposure. In this module, more attention will be focused on practical yet cutting-edge treatment strategies and evidence-based medicine for various detoxification strategies. All approaches to detoxification will be assessed according to the basic four principles which should be used to gauge the validity of any treatment; safety, efficacy, expense and difficulty of application.
