Tracking the Tropics- Two areas of interest remain in the Atlantic this morning; the first is an upper-level low located over the northwestern Bahamas. Those upper-level winds will remain unfavorable for significant development while the low moves across the southern half of the Florida peninsula. There is a low chance (20%) of this system becoming a tropical cyclone today or tomorrow and this probability only climbs to 30% when the forecast is extended to 5 days. This upper-level low will increase the rainfall potential for much of the coastal corridor on Floridas east coast over to the Everglades and the Florida Keys. It doesnt look like it will have as strong of an impact on most of SWFL. The second area of interest is the tropical wave located 750 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands. Environmental conditions remain favorable for further development as it continues moving to the west-northwest at 15 mph over the open waters of the Atlantic. Most forecast models continue to predict this storm system strengthening and turning back to the open waters of the Atlantic before reaching the Bahamas or the east coast of the United States.
