Traffic Shifting at U.S. 40/West Washington St. and High School Rd. INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors plan to shift traffic lanes August 1 on U.S. 40/West Washington Street and High School Road. Beginning at 9 a.m., traffic lanes on both directions of U.S. 40 and High School Road will be shifted to the right to allow for construction of median islands and left turn lanes. This shift is expected to be the final traffic phase before permanent striping of the new lane configuration. Once complete, U.S. 40 will have six eastbound lanes and five westbound lanes at High School Road. Eastbound U.S. 40 will have one left turn lane to northbound High School Road, one right turn lane to southbound High School Road, two lanes for through traffic, and two lanes for merging onto northbound and southbound I-465. Westbound US 40 will have three through lanes beginning at the I-465 interchange and two dedicated turn lanes onto High School Road. To learn of highway restrictions and conditions before departing go to TrafficWise.in.gov or call 800-261-ROAD (7623).
