Tragedy can hit any one at any time. This community has shown again and again that we are there to help in times of need. If you are going to give (especially money!) to assist a family that has had an emergency, please be sure to give directly to the family or to a seasoned organization with demonstrated accountability. You should be given a receipt in order to declare your tax-deductible donation and you should be able to easily track the organizations history, mission, budget and finances. Red Cross and Catholic Charities are terrific local organizations to support and all above board. Your church is another.
