Tragic News to Share: A 73-year-old Dubois man was found dead Friday in a ditch near his home, pinned underneath his riding lawn mower in a shallow puddle of water. Indiana Conservation Officers say Linus Bauer was mowing his lawn when his John Deere mower slid down an embankment and flipped over. Officers say the soil was wet and slippery. An autopsy will be performed today to determine a cause of death, Dubois County Deputy Coroner Tony Matthews said. Bauer, who lived at 4988 E. Dubois Road, began mowing around noon. Officers say a family member went looking for him and found him pinned under his lawn mower at about 4:30 p.m. Officers say a 3-inch puddle of water had pooled in the bottom of the ditch. The Dubois Volunteer Fire Department, Memorial Hospital EMS, Dubois County Coroner’s Office and Indiana Conservation Officers responded.
