Trail Running 101: Hopefully there will be more runners following the required hydration packs that one should bring as part of our training the runner to wean out of the road run psyche on too much dependency on outside factors. Its always been our intention to bring the level of our trail running races up in terms of difficulty. We are now on our 14th trail running races in 3 years away from the road and as proven last Sunday, YOU CAN DO IT. The 2x20 oz is a must for longer distances 21k and up and 1x20 oz for shorter distance 10k and 5k. You may also bring belt bag for your extras like energy gels or bars. You may also use bladder (but more expensive than carrying bottles) Here photos will show the runners with complete get up for trail running (you dont use this on the road you will look awkward). A runner needs only to drink from 8oz to 12 oz within 5km stretch too much drinking affects performance as you tend to gain weight and will result in what is called Water Intoxication a much more common occurrence in running than dehydration. If you still dont have them, a bottle of LIGHTWATER which you can refill later in one loop will do. Another must for runners are the headlamps or flashlight. More runners are now bringing headlamps. Unlike in road where you pour the drinking water to your body to cool off, in the trail you have the falls, the river, streams to cool your body down.
