Trail fact of the day! Trail of Tears, Lake Dardanelle State Park, Arkansas The Western Cherokee settled near here [Lake Dardanelle] in the late 1700s, and established towns, plantations and the Dwight Mission school. Almost 50 years later, the Trail of Tears brought all five tribes through here by water or land. Lake Dardanelle State Park is a National Park Service certified site of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. Its a great location to learn the history of the Trail of Tears, as this is one of the few location where stories of all five tribes can be told. You can attend a National Trails Day event at Lake Dardanelle State Park on Saturday, June 7 where you can create your own hiking stick! Take your hiking stick for a test run and enjoy the history of the many trails within this park!
