Trailing 10-0 in the second quarter on the road at Salisbury (MD) State, #24 Ithaca rallies to lead 17-10, and then is tied late in the third quarter. After a scoreless fourth quarter, IC scores in OT and kicks the PAT; Salisbury scores...and misses the PAT. Bombers win 24-23 and clinch both the Empire 8 title and an NCAA D3 playoff berth. Now 8-1, Ithaca is at home for the best rivalry in D3 (according to the experts) the Cortaca Jug game against 404 (soon to be 5-4) Cortland State, its neighbor out Route 13. A win next week would likely assure the Bombers, ranked #2 in the East, a home playoff game on November 23. Congrats to Coach Mike Welch and his staff on winning the E8 after being picked 5th of 8 schools pre-season, and doing so after losing both their starting QB and RB. And for my friends in Central PA, #25 Lebanon Valley (Annville, PA) is cruising midway through the fourth quarter against Stevenson (MD) and with the win will clinch at least a tie for the MAC title. LVC last won the MAC in 1969. 8-1 (assuming the win over Stevenson) LVC plays 6-3 Albright in the 93rd annual Pretzel Bowl next Saturday in Reading, PA.
