Training the beginner is pretty boring for the personal trainer. We have to reinforce good form and stick to bodyweight or very light loads for squat/lunge, hip hinge/dl, and bridge/hip thrust patterns. However, this phase is critical as it lays the foundation for future success. In time, the training gets much more intriguing when the lifter graduates to barbell full squats and barbell front squats and is able to load a 45-lb plate on each side of the barbell for deadlifts and hip thrusts. Eventually, more advanced single leg variations can be employed, and unique techniques can be implemented. But it all starts with mastering bodyweight during full range basic movement patterns. Progressions must be gradual - rushing them usually backfires on the lifter, so be patient and consistent.
