Transcription, and translation from transcription have been part - TopicsExpress

Transcription, and translation from transcription have been part of the portfolio of manyfreelance translators for some decades now. Despite the improvements in voice recognition technology, there is still a need for specialised transcription from audio, and translation, either from that transcription or directly from a source language file (or even, sometimes, a tape). The work can be diverse and interesting, and is often long-term and regular. Keeping up with technology is crucial: workflow has come a long way since the days of tapes and foot pedal machines! The webinar will cover the following subjects: What does transcription/transcription and translation entail? What equipment do I need to be able to offer it? What training do I need? How much should I charge? Who are the clients and how do I find them? Why should I take on this work? Why shouldnt I take on this work? The speaker: Lindsay Bywood studied languages at Oxford University before embarking on a completely unrelated career. Some time later she was awarded a Masters in Translation and became a salaried translator. She moved into subtitling in 1998 and has worked in the audiovisual translation industry since, in positions which include subtitler, project manager, operations manager and, most recently, as Director of Business Development at Voice & Script International (VSI).
