Transfer news: Liverpool unlikely to make January signings says Brendan Rodgers Last Updated: 31/12/14 12:09pm Brendan Rodgers: Insists his new squad is starting to adapt Liverpool are unlikely to sign any new players in January, according to manager Brendan Rodgers. The Reds have endured an indifferent season, knocked out of the Champions League group stages and languishing eighth in the Premier League. The club spent over £115m on new talent in the summer and Rodgers insists the solutions to their problems can be found in the current group - not elsewhere. Happy There wont be a lot of activity, if any, in January. My first look is always within and I still think we have players,” he said. “Furthermore, I dont think it is a good time to spend. Last year we never brought anyone in. I am happy with how the group is progressing. “We brought in a lot of players in the summer who we felt could develop and they are starting to adapt. Years ago, they’d have been given time to come in and settle but now they’re judged after one or two days. “It is so difficult for them and I can understand that. But it is never that easy for supporters and other people to understand. We brought them here because they are very good players and we feel they can contribute now and in the future. After settling in, and with coaching, we will see progress being made over the next couple of years.” Rodgers recently admitted striker Mario Balotelli, who cost the club £16m to sign from AC Milan in the summer, was not adjusted to Liverpool’s way of playing. Working hard But the Reds boss has insisted his position in the squad has not become untenable and he can still make a contribution before the season is out. “The team functions in a certain way and we need a certain profile of player to make it work, but Mario is still a player who has a contribution to make,” Rodgers said. “He is working hard because he wants to be the best he can be and whether he starts a game or from the bench we will look for a contribution from him.”
