Transfer window XI: The best Premier League signings of the summer - GOALKEEPER - Simon Mignolet - Liverpool look to have picked up an absolute bargain with the former Sunderland man. His £9m arrival at Anfield earlier this summer may have seen Pepe Reina depart the club, but 25-year-old Mignolet has several years on his Spanish counterpart and has the potential to be one of the top ‘keepers in the Premier League. DEFENDER - Mamadou Sakho - Another Liverpool signing, Sakho joined the club from PSG on transfer deadline day. He may have cost a bit at around £13m, but the 23-year-old French international will bring solidity to the Reds’ back line. Jores Okore - Not necessarily one of the big names of the summer, but Okore could prove a superb signing for Paul Lambert at Aston Villa. The 21-year-old turned down the chance to join Chelsea before moving to Villa Park, while he was also being watched by Liverpool and Newcastle, showing how highly-rated the youngster is in England. Instead, Villa snapped him up for just £4m. Vlad Chiriches - One of several players to join the ‘revolution’ at Tottenham this summer, Chiriches’ signing was perhaps the lowest profile of them all. However, the Romanian could prove an important addition to Andre Villas-Boas’ squad. The 23-year-old cost the club £8.5m, is in a similar mould to Jan Vertonghen, who has been a hit at White Hart Lane, and comes with European experience. MIDFIELDER - Willian - Chelsea snatched the midfielder from under the noses of Tottenham, having tracked him for several years. Willian was hugely impressive against the Blues in last season’s Champions League, where he ran the show for Shakhtar Donetsk both home and away. The 25-year-old may have cost a hefty amount at £30m, but adds to a formidable looking midfield which already boasts Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Oscar, Andre Schurrle and Kevin De Bruyne. Victor Moses - Liverpool snapped up Moses on a season-long loan from Chelsea on transfer deadline day, helping complete an impressive window for Brendan Rodgers. Moses will offer the Reds a wide option to replace the outgoing Stewart Downing and can link up well with former Blues team-mate Daniel Sturridge. Nathan Redmond - Another who may not have been a ‘big-money’ acquisition at just £3.2m, but could prove a fantastic bit of business for Norwich. The 19-year-old is an England Under-21 international with huge promise, and comes highly rated from former side Birmingham. Redmond has already got off the mark for the Canaries, capping another impressive display with the winning goal against Southampton last weekend. One for the future. Christian Eriksen - Spurs beat a host of clubs to the £11.5m signing of the highly-rated midfielder and it could prove something of a bargain. Liverpool were well-known admirers of the 21-year-old, who scored 33 goals in 161 appearances for Ajax, but it was Andre Villas-Boas who managed to seal the deal. Mesut Ozil - The biggest signing of transfer deadline day at £42.5m, Ozil is set to light up the Emirates this season. While Arsenal may not have strengthened in as many areas as fans may like, Ozil’s arrival is nothing to be sniffed at and Gunners should be excited about the prospect of the German international linking up with the likes of Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud in attack. FORWARD - Romelu Lukaku - Everton pulled a trio of signings out of the bag right at the close of play on transfer deadline day, including the Chelsea striker. Lukaku moves to Goodison Park on a year-long loan, despite interest from West Brom where the Belgian spent an impressive spell last season. The 20-year-old has a year’s worth of regular Premier League experience under his belt and will bring strength and goals to the Toffees’ front-line. Wilfried Bony - Swansea beat Chelsea to the signing of the 24-year-old Ivorian and what a coup it could prove to be. Bony arrived at the Liberty Stadium from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem earlier this summer for £12m and has already been among the goals for Michael Laudrup’s side. Bony has hit four goals in six competitive appearances for the Swans, across both the Premier League and Europa League and is an exciting prospect for the season ahead. #sagun
