Transparency International’s Global Corruption Barometer made - TopicsExpress

Transparency International’s Global Corruption Barometer made public across the world showed, that how rampant is the situation of corruption. that has been deep seated in the different sectors whether it is government entity or private. If we talk about the our country, the report says of the total respondents, 70 per cent said political parties are the most corrupt bodies in Nepal followed by bureaucracy (66 per cent), police (58 per cent) and judiciary and Parliament (51 per cent). Also according to the same report the other areas were private business sector (30 per cent), army (27 per cent), education sector (21 per cent), non-governmental organisations (20 per cent), medical sector (17 per cent), religious organisations (16 per cent) and media (14 per cent). In relation to Nepal 53% of the male and 47% of the female were given the questionnaire of 100,000 households of 58 Municipalities. As from the data bureaucracy is the second most sector where corruption is on a level high after political parties. From this we can clearly predict and see clearly the gloomy picture of our Country. Those who are responsible for making country prosperous are engulfed in a one of the deadliest and chronic disease of corruption. It is not so hard to imagine what will be the future of the citizens of the country. What will be the best possible solutions of such a precarious situation? How long should we have to wait for those things be completely cured? Will that day come? Such questions are hovering in my mind. See, what a co-incidence. On the same day when the above report was made public, the team formed under the main secretary to propose the hike in the salary of the civil servant, had proposed an increase in the salary of 21% and other benefits. Now here the question comes to my mind again: On what legal basis should their salary be hiked? When they are already receiving hefty sum of amount through the means of corruption? If the proposed salary is hiked by the government then aren’t we rewarding those who should be punished? This is a serious issue. Some of us may also argue that our bureaucrats receive very less salary that is why they are forced to be indulged in such activities. Although I agree on it but not sure because Does increasing salary will help to stop this rampant corruption. Such perpetrators should be punished severely. Instead of increasing their salary the government should invest those amounts in other productive sectors like Energy, Tourism and Agriculture. Through the holistic development of these three sectors can help prosper our country. When a country is prosperous then every citizens will have the better opportunity. Otherwise, that will be only the waste of huge resource of a poor nation.
