Transport operators and police commanders led by the Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura have agreed that a transport regulating body Taxi Parks/Stages Coordinating Committee (Tapscom) backed by Kampala Capital City Authority halts its work so that KCCA directly takes over the regulations. They also agreed that the operators and Tapscom establish a joint committee in which each will have 10 members to manage the parks next week. This was during a meeting the IGP called for with the Drivers and Conductors Association yesterday. The transport operators yesterday went on strike protesting the harassment and extortion from Tapscom. As of this morning taxis are on the roads. KCCA will also release the operators’ vehicles in custody after they have paid the fines.
