In 1968, President Lyndon Johnson was negotiating an end to the Vietnam War... and Candidate Richard Nixon was secretly meeting with the enemy to sabotage peace talks. Johnson called top Republican Everett Dirksen to let him know they knew what Nixon was up to: President Johnson Or some of our folks, including some of the old China Lobby, are going to the [South] Vietnamese embassy and saying, Please notify the President that if hell hold out till November the 2nd they could get a better deal. During a visit to Jerusalem in Israel on Sunday, the senator from South Carolina kissed the ring of Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu and declared that the Republican-controlled Congress would follow his lead on foreign policy decisions in the Middle East instead of President Obama.
