Tremendous sadness at hearing about the passing of the great Don - TopicsExpress

Tremendous sadness at hearing about the passing of the great Don Zimmer at age 83. My best memories of him are as Joe Torres bench coach and Derek Jeters lucky charm for the Yankees. But he was the Forrest Gump, an encyclopedia of baseball lore. He met Babe Ruth his rookie season. He played with Jackie Robinson. Zimmer won a World Series with the loveable Brooklyn Dodgers, and played for the original 1962 Mets. He witnessed Bucky Dents home run as manager of the Red Sox. He challenged Pedro Martinez to a fight in an ALCS game....at the age of 72. My dad loved Don Zimmer, and used to laugh whenever he was on TV in 1970s-1990s. I will miss Popeye, and hearing his stories. So will all of baseball.
