Tribune Awo left great legacies in South-West - NACCIMA · Written by Olayinka Olukoya - Abeokuta · Friday, 08 November 2013 02:30 The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), has said that the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, left behind great legacies which were enough for the western region to achieve economic liberty. The association’s second Deputy National President, Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson, said this at a pre-press briefing to herald the 18th Oodua joint trade fair scheduled to hold between 12 and 25 November, 2013 at the M.K.O Abiola trade fair complex in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The Oodua states comprises Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo and Lagos. Lawson, who addressed the media alongside the chairman of the trade fair’s planning committee, Chief Adekunle Ogunbayo, said the governments of the South-Western states and the organised private sector in the states have collaborated at making the event a success. She stated that only products that have been certified by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) would be showcased at the fair, assuring that all local council areas in the six states would be amply represented. She said, “the resuscitated 18th Ogun trade fair is going to be held here with our brothers in Oodua States, the old Western Region in attendace. We are coming together because that is our heritage. Our fore-fathers, people like Pa Awolowo, fought for this Oodua and we can see what has come out of Oodua region. “The first tallest building in Africa was built by the proceeds from cocoa. The first television in Africa is in this region. So, this joint trade fair is harnessing all of us together, has been resuscitated and it is happening here in Ogun State and we want everybody to join hands with us and make it is a reality. “All barriers must be taken away and then we can have effective growth. “Not only that, we have to showcase the locally manufactured products because we have things that we can be proud of. It is by putting them together like this and exhibiting them that you can have the confidence in the heritage we have in this region. “I know by the time we start next week, all hands will be on deck to showcase Ogun State, because everybody that will be here will travel round the state to see some of the things we have as tourist attraction and that one too will boost the economy of our dear state,” she added. Ogunbayo, who said participants were drawn from across the country, added that particular attention would be accorded the agro-allied as well as the small and medium scale enterprises. The chairman revealed that about 50 companies had so far indicated their interest to partake in the fair, promising that the fair would enjoy patronage from companies that attended the just-concluded Lagos International trade fair. He also said road shows would be floated around the state to sensitise people about the benefits accruable from the fair. Lamenting the state of the complex, Ogunbayo disclosed that the state council had presented a proposal to the state government towards making sure that the venue enjoys effective utilisation. He said the joint trade fair would henceforth be rotational among the South-Western states.
