Tribute to uncle Ghorban: Its always hard to describe someones life in few phrases. Specially, when that person left us with a rich legacy. He played different roles in his life. He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, an uncle and a grandfather. I can imagine that the family already described many of his roles since last year. I will only limit myself to two of his roles: son and uncle. Since our grandmother is not here, in her place, I will describe the sons role by sharing a memory of him. When we were kids, our parents would take us to our grandmothers house on Fridays. Usually, our uncles, aunts and cousins would also pass by to see grandmother. As we gathered, I could see happiness on grandmas face. But, her happiness was complete the moment uncle Ghorban would open the door. She would give him a huge smile. And would ask him: how are you my son? would you like some tea? Sometimes my father would tease her and say: So, what are we here? You didnt ask me about the tea!! My uncle would laugh and say: Well, my brother, by now, you should know who is the favorite one! As uncle, I have lot of memories of him. But I like to share the one that demonstrates the strength of his character and the gentleness of his soul. This story also shows how remarkable teacher he was. One day, my uncle passed by our house. I was a teen during that time. He told my father a story about one of my brothers. I heard the story and I didnt agree about some of my uncles comments regarding my brother. So, as an impatient teen, I jumped into the discussion and basically got angry with my uncle over his comments. My fathers face became red and he demanded that I apologize to my uncle. As a typical teenager, I refused. It was quiet a tense moment. My uncle immediately changed the situation by taking my father in a quiet corner. With a gentle smile, he said I dont mind Mojgans behavior. Actually, her way shows me quiet few things. Shes independent, shes protective of her family and she is quiet outspoken like our mother. I heard that and felt such a love for this great man. He didnt demand my respect. But he will always have my deepest respect and I will always remember him with great love. Let us go forward by remembering his most important legacies: love, compassion, joy and happiness, strength of character, family.... You will always be inside the hearts and minds of my generation and the next generations. Rest in peace my beloved uncle.
