Trip To The E.R. in the British Virgin Islands Anchored in Manchioneel bay off Cooper island Thursday, getting ready to dive, cut through the pad of my thumb with the dive knife, ended up in the hospital in road town, got six stitches, a tetanus shot and an xray to make sure I didnt knick the bone. Made sure I was cutting away from my body; didnt think about my other hand... Also wow a lot of blood comes out of your thumb! Meanwhile we called VISAR the rescue group in the V.I. We found out later that they had one boat out on a call and another boat was out with engine trouble, but at the time all they said was Is the bleeding under control? Okay then motor over to Road Town, drop anchor near the ferry dock, and walk to the hospital. Charlie took over as captain and I navigated while Kerry acted as nurse and handled communication and Jackie provided moral support and nurturing. Our radio failed at this point also so we had to use the cell to hail the marina we were pulling up to. Also, we took a flippin taxi to the hospital. Socailized medicine is awesome - 6 stitches, two x-rays, tetanus shot, in and out in two hours, $175!
