Trip to mountain villages near Pokhara, Nepal : Day 1, taxi up mountain road better suited for a 4 wheel drive than taxi. Pushed car up steeper parts. Stayed in the 5 star hotel in Dhampus. Norbert Ferré, does it count as a 5 star if there is no heat or hot water but the view of the Annapurna Range in the morning from my room was fabulous? Day 2: an easy 4 hour hike through the mountain farm areas during harvest. The hillsides are highly terraced, rice and millet being picked by hand. The rice was being threshed by hand and by having the cows walk over it. Millet is cut one little floret at a time. Such a lot of work. Another 5 star hotel this time with hot water if you take a shower in the middle of the day as it is solar heated. Another fantastic Annapurna range view at sunrise. Breakfast was millet pancake with a homemade pickled mint sauce freshly made. Day 3: a 3 hour walk down the mountain picking wild chestnuts along the way.
