Triumphant Tuesday : Here is a success story from our Disability Specialist Program. A young gentleman came into the BWCIL with the desire of being independent. He lived with his parents, and was diagnosed with Spina Bifita as a child, he has always lived with his parents and was ready to live his life. He was able to actively seek employment in the field he is interested in. We applied to several income-based housing apartments that would be accessible and affordable for him. With months of persistence, he was finally approved. As he moved in, he was able to get all of the supports and connections to live independently. He advocated for himself so much that he was able to receive a hand-peddled bicycle paid in full by the United Way. Today, he has been asked to come into the schools around the area and speak to students with disabilities and share his story, struggles and successes. This gentleman felt stuck and didn’t think he could do everything he did this past year. Now he knows that nothing is impossible, he is able to find ways to give back and experience the opportunities life has to offer.
