Trivia time: I learned via clue 16A in todays NYT crossword puzzle (and the comment of Amy Reynaldo, who runs the wonderful Diary of a Crossword Fiend blog) that the Lee Highway which runs through our neighborhood originally went all the way from New York to San Francisco. It also gave rise to a fabulous song by David Bromberg, The New Lee Highway Blues, which may be the best banjo picking tune ever other than Foggy Mountain Breakdown. Im too hurried this morning to insert all the links. In conclusion, I wish that this transcontinental highway had been named after George Washington (as in Washington Boulevard, the other main thoroughfare in our neighborhood) instead of the biggest traitor in US history, but what are you gonna do.
