Trojan Horse Family This past week was a super week for Task Force Trojan Horse – quite honestly, I can’t think of how much more we could’ve packed into one week. For starters, we celebrated the 8th Engineer Battalion’s 97th birthday on July 1st with a Task Force ceremony. The ceremony included an early recognition of Independence Day, the awarding of the 36th Engineer Brigade shoulder sleeve insignia indicating wartime service (AKA “combat patch”) to all of our deployed Troopers, the promotion of SGT Pavey (our BN Electronic Warfare Officer, EWO) to SSG, the re-enlistment of 7 of our dedicated Troopers, and last but not least, the cutting (and eating!) of our Battalion Birthday cake. Also of note, we had the 555th Engineer Brigade Command Sergeant Major, CSM Bryan, who was also the CSM of the 8th EN BN previously, in attendance. It truly was a special and memorable day for the Trojan Horse Family, so hopefully you took some time to scroll through the photo album for this event. On the actual 4th of July, I was able to attend the combat patch ceremony for the 87th Sapper Co at FOB Airborne, where we also recognized deserving Troopers with Company, Battalion, and Infantry Task Force coins. The following day I was able to accompany 1st PLT / 87th on one of their route clearance patrols – I was immensely proud of the professionalism and dedication to duty they demonstrated as they cleared some of the most challenging terrain in all of Afghanistan. We recently posted some photos of the 87th’s ceremony at Airborne as well. Also on the 4th of July, CSM Sparger & Chaplain (CPT) Cuchens split-off to FOB Fenty to spend Independence Day with the 937th “Beast”. In addition to the festivities, TH7 conducted a promotion board for the next crop of aspiring NCOs. To ensure TH7 got the most of his visit, they also conducted a physical fitness test (APFT) – better him than me!
