Troop 32 celebrates 90 years of existence SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A local Boy Scout troop celebrated 90 years of existence. Troop 32 of Springfield gathered at the Temple Beth El on Dickinson Street for evening celebration. They had dinner, held a silent auction and had a display of Troop 32 memorabilia through the years. The dinner was attended by dozens of current and former troop members. Many families, like the Dowd’s, told 22News the Boy Scouts has been a part of their lives for a long time. “I think it, kind of, made me find who I am when I’m with other people and I have to come out of my shell, I guess you could say,” said Tim Dowd, Life Scout. Scoutmaster James Dowd of Troop 32 told 22News,“It’s great to see the kids grow. When they are 11 years old and right out of cub scouts and used to going camping with dad and being on the outings, to then being on their own.” The troops have gone on trips to Philadelphia and Washington D.C. and do activities like biking and zip lining. Troop 32 is one of the oldest Boy Scout troops in Hampden County and has served hundreds of boys over the past 90 years.
