Trooper Sharp of our 3A CSP office was recently on patrol when he spotted this hawk on Highway 66 in Weld County. It appeared to have a broken leg as it was just sitting on the shoulder of the roadway. Trooper Meisner, experienced with handling birds, responded to the scene and was able to safely move the bird to his vehicle and transport it to a secure location, where a local raptor rescue center came and picked it up for care. We do not advocate this close of an interaction with the wildlife in Colorado, but it certainly is a unique experience for these Troopers to go above and beyond to protect all kinds of life in the state. Great job, guys!
