Tropical Depression 12E Forms in the East Pacific 9/5/2013 4:44:30 AM An area of disturbed weather off the southwest coast of Mexico has become more organized early Thursday morning and is now Tropical Depression 12E. This new depression is around 150 miles to the southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico. This depression should slowly strengthen as it drifts northwestward over the next several days through a zone of warm waters and relatively low wind shear. If it were to become a tropical storm, its name would be Lorena. The general motion of the storm should keep it offshore and roughly parallel to the west coast of Mexico today and tomorrow before it approaches the southern tip of Baja California later on Saturday. At this point, the system would be moving into cooler waters and would begin to weaken. Although the center will remain offshore of the Mexican coast today and tomorrow, it can still bring some locally heavy rain and gusty winds in rain bands along the coast of Mexico through tomorrow. In addition, there will be rougher surf and higher waves along the west coast of Mexico and the southern tip of the Baja as well over the next several days.
