Tropical Storm Odile became stronger today, now with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. Its centered about 260 miles southwest of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico, and is expected to become a hurricane on Friday. A Tropical Storm Watch continues from Lazaro Cardena to Manzanillo, Mexico. On the forecast track, the center of Odile is expected to remain well offshore of the coast of southwestern Mexico through early Saturday. Swells from Odile are expected to begin affecting portions of the southwest coast of Mexico in a day or so. The swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Sixteen-E remains over the open waters of the eastern North Pacific Ocean, centered more than 800 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. Maximum sustained winds are 35 mph. Little change in strength during the next 24 hours is expected, and the depression is forecast to become a remnant low by late Saturday.
