Troy Grant MP Minister for Hospitality, Gaming and Racing Minister for the Arts Media Release Wednesday 23 July 2014 $12.4 MILLION FOR COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS Ten community projects have received more than $12.4 million of NSW Government funding under the ClubGRANTS Category 3 scheme to help build and renew community sporting and recreational facilities. Minister for Hospitality, Gaming and Racing Troy Grant has handed over $12,403,592 in ClubGRANTS Category 3 funding from the 2013/14 program round to local community groups and organisations over the past few weeks. “It has been a great opportunity to meet with many of the recipients and see how this funding will benefit their local communities,” Mr Grant said. “The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government, through the ClubGRANTS scheme recognises the value these projects will have for local communities and we are proud to support the encouragement of greater participation in sport and recreation activities. “The 2013/14 round of ClubGRANTS Category 3 attracted 182 project applications from across the State but there were ten outstanding submissions from community groups in the Cessnock, Bega Valley, Gosford, Inverell, Lismore, Moree, Nambucca Heads, Penrith, Port Macquarie-Hastings and Tamworth local government areas. “The successful applicants are already getting to work on major development and upgrade projects to provide a range of sport and recreation facilities which will promote community engagement in local activities as well as youth participation in many disadvantaged areas,” Mr Grant said. Clubs NSW CEO Anthony Ball said the ClubGRANTS Category 3 scheme gives registered clubs in NSW an opportunity to provide funding for large scale community projects that otherwise could not occur under ClubGRANTS categories one and two. “The ClubGRANTS 3 scheme was developed by the Government and ClubsNSW to give clubs an opportunity to provide financial support for large-scale projects or services associated with sport, health and community infrastructure so they can continue to re-invest money back into the community for vital projects. “The ClubGRANTS scheme is supported by the NSW Government through a rebate of 0.4 per cent of gaming machine profits over $1 million. “The 2013/14 round of funding focused on projects to develop or enhance sport and recreation infrastructure with those eligible to apply including local government, non-profit organisations, charities and non-trading cooperatives,” Mr Ball said. The NSW Budget allocated up to $14 million for more ClubGRANTS Category 3 grants in 2014/15 to support sport, health or community infrastructure projects or services.
