Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, whose namesake Trombone Shorty Foundation provides music education and mentoring to underserved students in #NOLA, was named a “Turnaround Artist” with the federal Turnaround Arts initiative aimed at enhancing arts programs in low-performing schools. Three schools in Louisiana will join the Turnaround Arts program as part of a recent expansion announced at The White House. Troy joins acclaimed creative professionals Jason Mraz, Russell Simmons, Yo-Yo Ma, Elizabeth Banks, Elton John, Sarah Jessica Parker, Alfre Woodard, Frank Gehry and more in being honored as a Turnaround Artist. The artists work directly with their adopted schools over the length of the program to inspire students, teachers and the school community and highlight the impact of the arts on their school’s transformation. #Payitforward
