Truck driver to blame for deadly crash Cape Town - The Western Cape High Court has laid the blame for a deadly train crash near Faure, in Cape Town, on the truck driver who crossed the railway line, the Cape Times reported on Monday. Gert Zeelie was taking about 31 farmworkers to the Faure Wine Farm on 13 November 2006 when his truck stalled at the Croydon level crossing and was hit by a train. Nineteen workers died and 12 were injured. Two of the survivors, Primilda Jacobs, 26, and Caroline Hendricks, 47, reportedly took Metrorail and the Passenger Rail Agency of SA to court to try and show negligence on their part. However, Judge Thandazwa Ndita reportedly dismissed the case, finding that Zeelie should have stopped at the stop sign and crossed only once he was sure it was safe to do so. - SAPA
