True Detectives (Season 1) Moral of the story: Optimism is no more necessarily an illusion than pessimism. And for the lead character Rust Cole, played by Matthew McConaughey, that was as positive as we could have seen him get. But as the writer of the series explained, his conclusions were not based in sentiment, but in physics. I love the characters that he wrote and the director, Cary Funkunaga, did an equally impressive job. Cant wait for season 2 of this exceptionally highbrow detective series.
