True Stories from the Classroom VI: Boy Was That Hot! Last Saturday, while I was up in Blacksburg, my wife and I went out to eat lunch after working at the townhouse for 5 hours. We got to the restaurant about 2 p.m. She didn’t know where she wanted to go to eat, so she just said, “You pick where- ever you wish to eat.” I said, “OK.” Then she picked up her purse and got into the car with me. We drove downtown to Boudreaux’s. I love eating there because they have Cajun food. Cajun food comes from Louisiana. It is really spicy and I do mean spicy!!!!. I ordered jambalaya. It is made from rice, pork, shrimp, and some other spicy meat which I forget what it is. I ordered a beer while I waited for it to come. The beer was called Flying Dog. My wife ordered a glass of water along with a chicken sandwich. Our drinks got there first, so I was sipping on my brew waiting for my food. When it finally arrived, I took a huge bite because I was really hungry. “Boy, what was that?” my mind was screaming to itself. My mouth was on fire. I am sort of brave, so I took another bite. Now I was in trouble. Next my cell phone rang. It was Mathew, my son calling from home. I don’t remember what he asked me because my mouth was tingling so much. I yelled to the waiter for some more water. Actually, I motioned to him with my hands because my mouth would not work right. I just drank the rest of my wife’s water and it didn’t help at all. After another glass of water, I decided to try some more food. By now my mouth and stomach were used to the fire food and the rest of the food actually tasted pretty good. I can’t wait to go back there for round #2. I love good food, this was hot, but it was delicious. I forgot to mention that I washed it all down with another beer. I made sure my wife drove us home.
