True, confirmed and quite sad: Charles Baird Parker, the sole surviving child of Charles Yardbird Parker, has passed away at the age of 61. His late mother, Chan Woods, once said of their son: The jazz world expected Baird to fill Birds shoes. Those expectations almost destroyed him. Baird worked as a banker at his local Acme, but really didnt need to work, as Chan said, as he was receiving royalties from his fathers copyrights. Baird was immortalized in song via his fathers composition, Laird Baird, which can be heard on the CD, Now is the Time, The Genius of Charlie Parker Volume Three.
