True story!! A few years ago Trisadee and I went to Utah for my buddy Kell Southwicks wedding with our friends Ann Opdike and Eron Paige Sassmann (mother&daughter). We drove half way there on Friday and the rest of the way Saturday morning. We were late getting there so everyone had already left to the wedding. We talked to Kells parents(who we had never met) on the phone and they gave us directions to the house including details such as the yellow bus sign in the front yard. They told us that they left the house unlocked so we could just let ourselves in and get ready. They said I could stay with Tris in the spare room upstairs with the queen bed and Ann and Eron could stay down stairs where there was a futon & extra bed. By the time we got there we were exhausted. We found the house at the end of the cul-da-sac with a yellow bus flag on it and proceeded to unload our luggage. I was sitting on the couch with Trisadee when Ann & Eron came in and said that there was a man down stairs in one of the rooms. They had opened the door and realized he was in there on the phone so they just closed the door and came back upstairs. We figured he was a family member that was in town for the wedding. We continued to unload our things, Eron went to the bathroom to take a shower and Ann headed back outside to get more stuff out of the van. A few minutes later Kells dad (Rod) called to check on us. I told him that we had made it safe and sound. He asked me if we had already started unloading our things and I said yes but we were confused because we couldnt find the room with the queen size bed or the futon. He said the room with the queen size bed was down the hallway on the right. I said the only extra room I could find upstairs was the room with bunk beds and Star War posters. Rod said we dont have bunk beds or Star Wars posters.......I said what? Are you sure?! He asked his wife Hun do we have any Star Wars posters in the house? She said not that I know of.... I was so confused!! He said Im not sure what room you are looking in but the futon is downstairs. I said we didnt really look downstairs much because there was already a man downstairs and we didnt want to bother him. He said there shouldnt be anybody there. He asked me to describe the man so I gave him the description that Ann and Eron had given to me. He said it didnt sound familiar. He asked his wife (Tam) if she knew who might be there and she said no one should be there. I started to panic because I realized that this man had broken into their house!! Rod asked are you sure youre in the right house? I asked him what his house number was and he told me so I walked outside and looked at the number on the house and realized we were in the wrong house!! I went over to Ann who was getting things out of the van and told her we were in the wrong house!! At first she didnt believe me but we double checked the house number with the number on the directions in the car and sure enough we had just broken into somebodys house!! I mean honestly how many people have a yellow school bus sign in their yard!?!? We had no idea what to do....Should we knock and ask the man if we could get all of our stuff out of his house or sneak back in and get our stuff and run?? After a lot of freaking out and discussing different case scenarios we decided to just go in and get our stuff and leave hopefully before the man came back upstairs. For all we knew he was hiding from us in the room downstairs and was on the phone with the police reporting a break in.... We opened the door and headed towards our stuff when the man came upstairs. We stood there for a second kind of dumbfounded. We had no idea what to say or do so I just blurted out we are so sorry we are in the wrong house, we unloaded all our stuff in here already and we just need to get it real quick if thats ok.... He said sure no problem. Where are you supposed to be? We said the Southwicks He said oh, they are the next house over. We were SO relieved that he was nice!! Ann asked him didnt you think it was weird that a bunch of random women were in your house? He said no.....my wife is always helping people and making plans with people in the Relief Society so I figured you had already talked to her. We got all our stuff out and luckily Eron hadnt gotten in the shower yet!! We laughed so hard the rest of the trip!! Ann (who is not Mormon) said only Mormons would just let random people roam through their house and unload their luggage and not even question it. LOL!! Good times!! Glad we didnt get the police called on us or get shot!! Gotta Love it!! I am blessed :)
