True story that happened today: My squeeze Orion and I are members - TopicsExpress

True story that happened today: My squeeze Orion and I are members of a cheap ($10/month) gym that used to be conveniently near his school. We dont get out that way and its a hassle to go there just to exercise, so I was glad to notice a similarly cheap gym in a way better location. (I refuse to join 24 Hour Fitness, because of their fat-hating past in San Francisco.) So we stopped by the location today to see if we might want to switch over. We walk in and stand at the front desk. There are three people there, two women and a thin/muscular white guy who fits the gym-body stereotypes. Before we can say anything, he says, Are you looking for tires? I honestly didnt understand why he would ask that. I imagined it could be some weird fat joke, but it just wasnt at all funny and didnt make sense, so I said something like, No, why would we be looking for tires? He said it again once or twice, in slightly different variations and I just kept looking at him with more confusion and may had said again, Tires? Some guy passing behind the counter said, Thats just his bad humor. I looked to the two women behind the counter and said, Were here to check out the gym and see if wed like to join. The muscular guy walked away, I think. One of the women offered to show us around and I said wed like to look around on our own. I didnt see the tires comment guy again. Its an okay facility, although their elevator wasnt available and the place is on three stories, so they need to work on their access for people who need that option, obviously. I think we will probably join. (And be ready to edufight, as Sondra Solovay calls it.) Orion and I have been trying to figure out what the annoying guy was trying to say. Clearly, when we didnt immediately go along with his comment, he had nothing more to add, and got increasingly uncomfortable-looking. But...it wasnt funny. It didnt make much, if any sense. If it was supposed to be some kind of fat joke, it was unimpressive. I welcome feedback and suggestions!
