Truly fantastic British-Chinese cinema collection on the BFI Online Platform. Watching this short trailer for the collection here its absolutely astonishing what a rich, vibrant and impressive body of work British East Asian film makers have created in the last 25 years despite having virtually no support from the industry at large and the sheer lack of numbers weve often had to contend with. Its also truly heartening to see the passion BFI archivist Dylan Cave shows in the interview here. All too often our work is pushed to the fringes and not given any kind of coverage. (now never seen). The full film also features a kiss on the lips between the same couple. This is something of a collectors item I have to say: an inter-racial kiss where the male is Chinese! Indeed, youll have to search a long way to find another instance of an East Asian male kissing ANYONE romantically onscreen.
