Trust is a word that is now condom-ized. But in its purest and pristine form, trust is earned before being deserved. So when we are called to rally behind a leader whose trust has been severely eroded by actuations that go against the very slogan of daang matuwid through the exponential misuse of public funds struck down twice over by the Supreme Court, it is not difficult to have quizzical eyebrows and pedantic eyelashes raised. How do we learn to trust again? Not by copious tears or leaning on the rallying point of EDSA 1 that the Filipino is worth dying for. Its by manifesting sincerity in the pursuit of those who raided the public coffers, whether or not he is kaalyado, kaibigan, kakosa, kabagang. Its expressed in the willingness to let go of what one holds dear---like the family jewels called Hacienda Luisita. Its by alleviating still widespread poverty and pursuing real inclusive growth because the great unwashed continue to suffer while a 6.2% growth is trumpeted. It is all about probity, sincerity and a lot of good, honest and hard work.
