Trying not to vent often on here, but, Ill make an exception now. Ive been trying to avoid posting too much on Fergusen since anyone that follows me already knows not only where I stand but has a flood of info to see why I have the opinions that I have. Every now and then Im harshly reminded of the disparity between what I experience for media and what most Americans get from mainstream sources. Its nothing that I dont know but its still surprising how bad it really is. Its horrifying both how much advertisement geared towards changing how people think in order to get them buying crap that does nothing for them is played in a short time on cable tv channels. Terrible the amount of tv programming that is run on the basis of dehumanizing people for sport. Its even more horrifying what those who watch mainstream news and read police blotters have for information to form their opinions on whats happening in Ferguson or general police misconduct across the country. Speaking to someone that never misses the news (sources include CNN, New England Cable News, ABC, NBC, CBS, the Lawrence Eagle Tribune and the Boston Globe) they dont believe that cops lie. Never heard about all the footage of police out of control, aiming guns at reporters with cameras and threatening to shoot them, the no fly zone instigated to keep out reporters which was found to be unconstitutional and on and on. That level of hiding whats going on is straight up brainwashing. Too many people are forming opinions with terrible information. I had to hear the words every time a cop kills a black kid they... followed by horrific racist statements of what they do. The moment I start explaining, what they missed, my own experiences, etc. they want to change the conversation and stick to their insane opinions. On top of that, my other profile that is just family and professional looks completely different from the one with friends. Here I get differing opinions, discussion, tons of studies, news sources, people who counter news sources with other information, and on and on, beyond a great sense of humor and excellent music and culture. There, its frighteningly vapid fluff on par with browsing 1970s Hallmark cards. There is hardly any news, no studies, no posts about any current events. Although I welcome that many of these things are on this profile as well, its ALL animals, children, food, travel, and inane hallmark level humor at best. Sadly that profile seems to make up the majority of people in this country more than this one. At least on the day when the cop was let off the hook and the inevitable result started one good bit of news happened on the social justice front, very bitter sweet as it may be. A federal appeals court has upheld a lower court ruling ordering Louisiana to release Albert Woodfox, a former Black Panther who has spent more than 40 years in solitary confinement, longer than any prisoner in the United States. Woodfox and the late Herman Wallace, another prisoner of the Angola 3, were convicted of murdering a guard at Angola Prison. The Angola 3 and their supporters say they were framed for their political activism. A federal judge ruled last year that Woodfox should be set free on the basis of racial discrimination in his retrial. It was the third time Woodfox’s conviction has been overturned, but prosecutors have negated the victories with a series of appeals. Thursday’s ruling by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the order for Woodfox’s release in a unanimous decision. see democracynow.org/shows/2014/11/24
