Trying to imagine living in North Central France (Paris) in the early 700s and hearing about the slaughtering force of Abd-ar Rahman Al-Ghafiqi with his desire to come and kill all the infidels in my city and country. Trying to imagine preparing mentally and physically for war, under a yet unnamed leader - who would become Charles Martel. Trying to imagine those men, who had no desire for war - but felt duty bound to drive a rapidly expanding theocratic tyranny from not only their city / country - but from an entire continent! Without social media in those days, with no pictures or videos being liked shared or retweeted to see the beheadings, crucifixions and live burials - only the gory verbal communications of the ethnic cleansing taking place in the name of the advancing armies god - the name of allah - that generation rose to the occasion to stop pure evil. Thank God for those men and their families who rose to the occasion some 14 centuries ago. Had they not done so, the world would have never known The Renaissance, The Reformation and this what we have come to know as Western Civilization. Todays struggle in the Middle East is not new. It is in its 14th century. Its war has been fought on The continent of Europe before - and it was pushed back to the desserts from which it arose. As it was then - so it must be now. We dont know who will lead us yet - but like those who were preparing 14 centuries ago - thousands upon thousands are preparing today. The leaders are likely not in the capital cities of the world yet - but we do look forward to learning their names! #LetsRoll
