Tubod Brief History reigns throughout ages Tubod in early times is a woodland or otherwise known as virgin forest with lived native inhabitant the “Mamanwas”. Mamanwa has been a nomadic in nature. They travels from the hinterland of Tubod and usually stayed near the riverbank. Mamanwa derives from the Two (2) root words Man mean people, or “Banwa” mean jungle. The Mamanwa means people living in the jungle. The Mamanwa people are still occupying the hinterland of Tubod particularly in the Barangays Cawilan and Motorpool. It is a very significant beginning building a home for exquisite tuboranon. It is an indication that, the past olden times is essential in Tubod making. It is a place where we find a better dwelling for respected Tuboranon. Mr. Agustin Mendez recognizes as the First Christian settler who discovered the woods. An immigrant from Ubay, Bohol Province on 19th Century. The one who develop and promote Tubod in the map of Surigao. The virgin place has no legitimate name. It is Mr. Mendez organized a”Cabeza de Barangay”to create a Sitio. Cabeza means “Leader” while the Cabezilla means “Kagawad” as called today. It is one way remembering our dead pillars in Cabeza de Barangay. They were composed by Original Tuboranon namely; Agustin Mendez, Donato Pacatang, Florencio Gallenero, Gabriel Sumania, Isaias Calamba, Marciano A. Dapar, Galanida, Basil, Lumayag and Barro ruled the Cabeza de Barangay. Mr. Mendez leads the Cabeza de Barangay bloc and young Galanida as the Secretary. All the rest were Cabeza Council members. Earlier, Mr. Mendez mission creates Sitio name. He calls a priest in Carrascal, Surigao del Sur but invitation fails due to bad weather. The means of transportation before is Kayaking before reaching Carrascal. It connects Sea travel from Carrascal to Placer in Mainland. From Placer to Barangay Timamana via horse riding try. Mr. Mendez never stops dreaming. He instructs Cabeza Secretary Galanida for Clergy requisition in Jabonga, Agusan del Norte. They cruises Tubod River to Sabang point of Lake Mainit. In earliest time, they glide bulky Lake of Mainit as passable cruise reaching the place. The invitation of Jabonga prospers. A day has come for TUBOD. Early settler believes the important of its First Mass Celebration. The day conceives new Sitio’s name. It was Reverend Father Sanidad officiated First Mass and declares new Sitio. He calls it, “Sitio Union Sanidad” on “Tres de Abril” Year of our Lord. The word “Tres de Abril” is a Spanish term and in English its 3rd day of April. The original name of the Sitio derives from Priest Surname, Sanidad. Early inhabitant schedules monthly and weekly masses for their spiritual development. Believing one God but most of them are religious fanatic believer. Tuboranon were religious people with Roman Catholic dominate other religious affiliation and sect. Sitio Union Sanidad decribes been Rough Road and Community Houses made up of Nipa as well as Round Timber material. Only few people settle. Sitio Union Sanidad is a progressive Sitio of Barangay Timamana, Placer. It serves as farmland where Mr. Agustin Mendez cultivate in a day. And at night, he go home to Timamana where his residence established. From Timamana, he later transfers to Tubod. The old Sitio Union Sanidad separates from Mother Barangay Timamana through an ordered by duly Constituted Authorities on 19th Century. “Sitio Union Sanidad” declares to be an independent Barangay Tubod on 1908. It is a public knowledge of Tubod that, Mr. Agustin Mendez the First Leader and Originator called, “Barrio Lieutenant” initiate the Barangay Tubod making on 1908. The First Christian dweller who named the place “TUBOD”. The word “Tubod” comes from local dialect term, “Tuboran” which means Source of Water. Tubod is a Visayan word that has full of meaning. It has been indicated with, “Tuboran sa Kaluoy, Tuboran sa Pagkamanggihatagon ug Tuboran sa Gugma. The earlier Barangay Tubod has a populace more or less 100 people mostly immigrants from Bohol, Leyte, Camiguin and Surigao. It is a Socio-Agricultural Sitio with their source of income from Abaca, Coffee, Rice and Root Crops like; Ube, Camote and Calibre. Later on, Coco and Irrigated Rice farming planted twice a year. Barangay Tubod surrounded by Mountainous Terrains, Hills and Famous grandeur Mt. Maniayao stands overlooking. A greenly pastureland and mountain ranges fixed. It is God’s blessing for tuboranon the presence of Natural Deposit and Mineral Resources like; Gold, Silver, Copper, Chromate and Iron. Tuboranon religious undertaking, Mr. Mendez donates Two (2) Solid Wood Sculptured Patron Saints Peter and Paul sculpted on 19th Century. All the way, town feast falls every June 28-29 every year. Thus, Tubod Founding Hero Agustin Mendez legacy is he founded Tubod and took several donation for Municipal and Roman Catholic Church Settlement. Eventually, he considers as Tubod Local or Municipal Hero per SB Resolution on 1989. Apparently, series of donation from portion of track land to people in order to entice and capture to live. The political bustle of Tubod exist. It was headed by Mr. Mendez and inherited by succeeding Famous Tubod Leaders. They were appointed and elected as recorded in Municipal Archives. Tubod was previously part of the Municipality of Mainit, Surigao del Norte. It was created by virtue of Executive Order No. 269 dated September 18, 1957.
