Tuesday 13th May 2014 By Ricardo “Gladiator” Welch PENNY PLANS TO CONCEDE BEFORE SUNDAY? Rumors, up to posting this article, are spreading left, right and center of Penelope Beckles-Robinson (“Penny”) wanting to throw in the towel before Sunday 18th May internal election of the Peoples National Movement (PNM). Sources within Penny’s camp are claiming that she is considering making an announcement before Sunday’s election. It is being claimed that Penny is timing the mood of her supporters to decide her next move. Whether she will make that announcement is left to be seen. For me, I don’t believe Penny would concede; she has too much pride and wish to prove the point of being the first woman within the PNMs history to challenge the leadership. Sources further stated some of her supporters within her camp has already conceded and would like her to meet with officials from Rowley’s team to discuss and iron out a way out that would not bring more shame to Team Penny in the eyes of PNM membership and the public in general. They are hoping that any fall out could be healed in the shortest possible time with future appointments of her team under Rowley’s government. Political pressure is mounting heavily on Pennys shoulder to bow out gracefully with a view of getting the PNM’s nod to contest a seat along the East-West corridor in the next general election, 2015. Some of her supporters, against those who are opposing the move to concede, view the move will begin the healing process within the party and will demonstrate that Penny is not toting feelings for Team Rowley. The move however does not mean that if Team Penny concedes she would be made a cabinet minister under Rowley’s administration. Supporters who oppose the move still feel Penny can still pull it out at this Sunday’s election in spite of all the indicators showing a Team Rowley’s landslide victory. They argue that they have the support of PNMs grassroots who will give her their support and vote Team Penny resoundingly over Team Rowley. Even the political crystal ball is not showing good signs—the balisier is pointing downwards for Team Penny. Moreover, Penny’s team received a severe and irreparable blow last week when former senior Cabinet members under the Patrick Manning’s Administration endorsed Team Rowley and his team for leadership of the pnm party. Such is causing a great setback to her campaign. With the support of Nilelung Hypolite MP, Penny’s slate is being viewed as a group of inexperience poiticians who are not ready to manage PNM’s affairs and is without a Public Relations Officer, Treasurer and Labour Relations Officer. Team Penny slate only consists of: - 1. Political Leader-Penelope Beckles-Robinson 2. Chairman-Danny Montano 3. Vice-Chairman-Cagney Cassimere 4. Lady Vice-Chairman-Marvia Bellamy-Bostic 5. General Secretary-Ronald Boynes 6. Assistant General Secretary-Clifford Campbell 7. * Nil—Public Relations Officer 8. Operations Officer-Eber Steele 9. * Nil—Treasurer 10. Welfare Officer-Heather Walker 11. Youth Officer-Jamal Steele 12. Election Officer-Esau Mohammed 13. Field Officer-Bose Sharma 14. Education Officer- Joanne Lima-Neaves 15. * Nil—Labour Relations Officer Meanwhile, Rowley is keeping close to his chest the names of those who will make up his 18-member cabinet. Speculations have been bandied about of the individuals to consist of Rowley’s cabinet and the country’s next Attorney General. He also did not reveal nor give a hint of whether any former cabinet ministers would be included in his cabinet. Its your guess . . . .
