Tuesday 19th August Koala Room Update: This morning we started off with paints and stamps. Zac and Konnor both used their fine motor skills to pick up the stampers, press them into the paint and then make patterns of butterflies and ducks. Archie, Konnor and Miriam explored the paint by pushing it across the paper and squishing it in their fingers. Afterwards we all sat down to have a sing song, Linda found all the rattles in the toy box and sang “Shake, shake, shake, if you feel you want to.” All the children joined in and shook their rattles making wonderful sounds. The Possums came to join us and we had a story and singing time. We sang “Hop little rabbits, Stomp little dinosaurs, Snap little crocodiles.” The wooden tunnel was a big hit with our crawling Koalas. Grace, Austin and Claudia took turns as well as race each other through the tunnel. Claudia stopped to have a chat to her reflection, smiling at herself. Possum Room Update: Today we did indoor/outdoor play and this allowed the children to choose to play inside with activities set up or outside with our new trampoline, basketball hoop, bikes and other activities set up. Jaanavhi, Adriana, Hudson, Zoe, Baaba and Scarlett excitedly waited for their turn on the trampoline showing their educators and peers how well they could jump. Sienna and Zayla showed Donna their basketball skills by throwing the ball into the hoop on several occasions and when Donna clapped and cheered for them they both had great big smiles on their faces from their achievements. Also set up on the table outside was some cotton bud painting of sea animals, Charlie and Bridget enjoyed using all the colours placed in front of them as they painted their rainbow fish. Play dough was a popular choice this morning with the children helping Sam to roll the play dough into balls to make snowmen. Once the snowman was made the children laughed and cheered as they took in turns to squash it. Sophie used her fine motor skills to cut, roll and stamp the play dough using a variety of different tools. Bilby Room Update: Today has been a rainy day, so the Bilbys activities have been indoors. Painting with cars and tractors proved to be popular amongst the children. Havarna had fun rolling the car in paint and on to her picture. Alex wanted to use all of the cars and tractors, so he rolled the wheels in all different coloured paint, saying the colours as he went along. Michael chose to sit in a quiet area to read his book, looking at the pictures he points and then says to Bonny “looks a bunny” In group time today the children all enjoyed reading stories with Grace and Crystal. Grace read to the children our all-time favourite The Bear Hunt. Platypus Room Update: In the Platypus room today educators provided a number of different activities that encourage turn taking and listening skills. Our friend Noah bought in a very special toy from his home to show us. Noah told us all about his dragon and that it was from a movie called “How to train your dragon”. Noah said “Mummy and Daddy got it for me”. Kiana also bought in a special book for us to read. The book is called “Rapunzel”. Kiana shared with us “My mum bought me this book”. During our literacy group this morning Angela showed us letters of the alphabet. She encouraged the group to say the name of each letter and also encouraging them to think of something that starts with the letters they were looking at. The children enjoyed discovering letters of their own names. Ruby.C showed us how she can write her own name. With a little encouragement from an educator, Ruby stared the R and the U then copied the rest from her name written on the board. Blake, Sallie and Charlee built a big tower using the blocks. They carefully placed each block on top of each other until it crashed to the ground. Kangaroo Room Update: Today as a follow on from yesterday Jess and Maggie made some modelling clay. With the modelling clay and Letter templates all the children were able to manipulate the clay using their hands to roll the clay and also using the templates to make creations of the first letter of their names. Jess asked the children “What does it feel like”? Maya told Jess “It felt like dough” Amelie explained “It felt like play dough” Lily R said “It feels like a lemon” Maddison said “It was all squishy and squashy”. Everyone loved this activity and all were very keen to make their letter and to also find the letter that started their names. Sally asked Amelie to help her make her letter “S” after Amelie helping Sally to create the letter “S” Sally was able to create her own “S Great team work Sally and Amelie. This afternoon we will be painting our beautiful creations. Ashton, Toby and Maddison made a very large creation this morning using the stained glass blocks they had carefully constructed a very large house for all their jungle animals which this is where all their animals lived in the jungle. As its book week most children enjoyed creating a mask to wear in the book parade. Animals such as Tigers, Giraffe and Zebras were made using crape paper and glue also some children liked to colour theirs in using lots of beautiful colours. This morning at table activity’s Amelie enjoyed having a turn at the letter table this morning with Anne as she found all the letters and then made her name. Addison also found all the letters to make the word “Apple” Addison also asked Anne for help, how to spell the word “ Apple” after Anne told Addison she was very confident in finding all the letters. Myah was attempting to find all the letters of her name but as they were all being used, Myah wasn’t able to find them. But Myah was able to verbally tell Anne the letters in her name. Tilly was very confident at finding all the letters in her name also. Emu Room Update: Reflection by Micheal. Outdoor play spaces is the topic that’s up for discussion quiet a lot lately, the children are itching to get into the new pallet house that they helped construct yesterday; amongst all the sawing and nailing; I overheard children discussing what they thought the house was going to end up being. So today we did exactly that; we polled the children using drawings that they had made as to what they wanted the new construct to be. Connor drew pictures of a café, with seating on the side for people to enjoy all the café food and a serving window with a hectic kitchen racing against the clock to deliver meals. Daisy drew a picture of a castle, standing majestically tall amongst the yard with flags on top, not just one flag however 2 Its so that everyone knows they are home” – Daisy. Grace drew a picture of a garden with crowns scattered in the flowers, perhaps crown plants? And Amara drew some swings in the garden. With all these great ideas flowing in from the children, it will be hard to make just one of the children’s drawings a reality. So we will construct a play space for the children that is very open ended and can then be a castle one day and a cafe the next. We are also asking if anyone has anything to donate either at home or at their work like pallets, tiles, old kitchen parts or even just scrap wood; could you please check with educators before you bring them in. Also did I mention that we want it to be made from 100% or as close to 100% recycled materials? REDCUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
