Tuesday 26 August we have a timely speaker with Phil Wheatley talking about youth mental health and suicide awareness. Phil has been a Rotarian since 1991 and is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Brighton North. His interest in youth mental health goes way back to 1996, when he heard Dr Michael Carr-Gregg present on the alarming, and inexplicable, increase in youth suicide. Professionally, Phil is the Executive Director of Operation Newstart Inc, a Victoria-wide program which works with the Department of Education, Victoria Police and other community agencies to assist youth between 14 and 16 years old who have become disengaged from their secondary schooling.
