Tuesday, August 5 Philippians 4:6-7 When I Discovered The True Meaning Of Church As I grew and left home to attend college, my Christian experience became less and less. We stayed out late on Saturday night and woke up in time on Sunday to go to lunch at 11:30, do some studying and play sports in the afternoon. After marrying the woman of my dreams who was a regu- lar at church and very faithful to the church, things didn’t really change. I still did not attend church except once in a while and the customary Christmas and Easter service. Throughout my whole life I felt like I lived a Christian life. I didn’t drink, smoke, cursing was very seldom; I used prayer and my conscience through Jesus Christ to guide me. My wife took the kids to church and she went. I still went occasionally, but I didn’t need the church. My com- ment to my wife was: “ I can be Christian without going to church.” When I turned 52, I started to wonder if I was doing it the way God intended me too. I was baptized that year. While being baptized the minister asked if anyone would like to stand with me. Of course my wife and kids were there but my wife whispered to me and said, “Look behind you.”. I turned around and there must have been 25-30 church members standing behind me. What a feeling to see the support of so many people. If the church can give me that much support, I realized what church is supposed to be about. The church is the bride of Christ. She is to care for the needy, shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, and lead people to Jesus Christ. Sometimes I don’t feel like I worship God the best I can and I worry constantly about things I can’t control. During one of these times a teacher at my school supplied apiece of scripture that will never leave me. Have no anxiety about anything, but in every- thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiv- ing let your request be made know to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understand- ing , will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 Prayer: Lord, give us peace as we seek to serve you in Armenia. Help us keep our focus on You and keep our eyes open to see the work of Your Hands. ~~Submitted by Steve Hall
