Tuesday I had an opportunity to attend the UM vs Illinois - TopicsExpress

Tuesday I had an opportunity to attend the UM vs Illinois basketball game. Prior to me entering the building, a football player was walking my way with a red cup in hand and his pants sagging below his waist showing his underwear. Something in me said you should say something to him but I looked away. Then he actually walked right next to me and I stopped him. I said You dont know me but I care for you. You dont just represent yourself. Your represent every person who has worn a UM jersey, the school, your family and youre a role model to little kids. Pull up your pants and hold your head up high. Kings present themselves a certain way. Its about perception and especially with everything going on in the world to day, you cant afford to be seen this way. He replied thank you and changed how he looked. I write this to say that there are many times we as African Americans see things that arent right in our community and turn a blind eye to it. I almost did but something inside of me said you must talk to this young man. Please remember that What they see is what they will be & it takes a village to raise a child. Lets do our part and equip our youth with the necessary skills to survive in todays world!
